The following RealAudio clips come from a WNEW-TV blooper reel provided by Brian McCarty. The original material was recorded in the early '60s, and Sandy's 'contribution' consists mostly of outtakes and spontaneous goofing around during rehearsal.
Sandy didn't like talking down to his audience, and it shows in this clip. Given a cutesy Good Humor commercial to rehearse, he really overdoes it; the expression on his face is gleeful to the point of dementia, and his voice becomes increasingly childish until the punchline...
The Big Professor explains quicksand. The format is the usual one, except that Sandy flubs his lines and has to cut things short.
Sandy infiltrates a WNEW-TV audition disguised as mumbly announcer Eliot Granger. Granger introduces himself, reads a few straight news stories, and does some commercials. In this one, Eliot is trying to demonstrate how to make Nestle's Quik but has been given water instead of milk. After gamely trying to make Quik with a glass of water, he loses his temper and starts shoving a stagehand around. Craig Marin says that the prank was kept a secret from all but a few people, and that the WNEW-TV brass were stupefied at "Granger"'s increasingly-bad performance-- including the complete destruction of a Hostess cupcake in order to show off the cream filling.
A 7-Up fairy tale...
Sandy plugging John's Bargain Store (is it still around?)
This one is just plain nuts. Sandy seems to be free-associating here. At the start of the clip he is standing in front of a wall trophy and appears to have antlers, which only adds to the goofy atmosphere...
A short clip of Sandy talking in jive.
